DESIGNER

Päivi Keski-Pomppu

Päivi Keski-Pomppu is inspired by moments of surprise, and emotions and things she has seen or experienced. As a product designer and an admirer of art, Päivi perceives jewellery as small sculptures where there is room to play with surfaces and the characteristics of the used metal. When creating her pieces, Päivi draws elaborate designs, which she then simplifies towards the end. Indeed, Päivi’s jewellery is characterised by subtleness juxtaposed with multidimensionality.

"I often work by making quick sketches in the notebook that act as notes. I often pursue ideas right on my desktop made of concrete materials. I sketch some products on paper and in thoughts for longer. I also see jewelry and objects visually in my eyes, so I often think about things and functionalities in my thoughts. Inspiration can come at any moment, then all you have to do is put things up and then test whether they carry them further. Many jobs may be in the process for a long time and pop up ready at the right moment. Experiments and coincidences have sometimes taken jewelry forward. Jewelry can often also be thought of as miniature sculptures." - Päivi Keski-Pomppu
